Rev. Seefeld grew up in Laurel, Mississippi, and married high school
sweetheart Winna Freeman. They have two children: Walt, a graduate
of Mississippi State University, is a computer specialist in the
corporate world; daughter Ashley, also a graduate of Mississippi State
with a Master’s from the University of Southern Mississippi, works in
the field of mental health.
Following a brief career in electrical engineering Rev. Seefeld
served two years in the United States Army in Field Artillery with one
year of service in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star and Air
Medal. Leaving active duty as a sergeant he returned to Mississippi
State University earning a degree in Forestry. A career in the field of
forestry spanned twelve years in Louisiana and south Mississippi.
Responding to a lifelong call to ministry the Seefelds moved to Shannon,
Georgia, in 1983 while he attended seminary at Emory University in
Atlanta, graduating Cum Laude in 1986.
Rev. Seefeld is in his 25th year as a United
Methodist pastor. Having served in the Mississippi Annual Conference as
founding pastor of Christ United Methodist in Long Beach, pastor of
Byhalia UMC, First UMC Kosciusko, and Alta Woods UMC in Jackson, he
came to First UMC Greenwood in June of 2001.
