Rev. Seefeld grew up in Laurel, Mississippi, and married high school sweetheart Winna Freeman. They have two children:  Walt, a graduate of Mississippi State University, is a computer specialist in the corporate world; daughter Ashley, also a graduate of Mississippi State with a Master’s from the University of Southern Mississippi, works in the field of mental health.

Following a brief career in electrical engineering Rev. Seefeld  served two years in the United States Army in Field Artillery with one year of service in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star and Air Medal. Leaving active duty as a sergeant he returned to Mississippi State University earning a degree in Forestry. A career in the field of forestry spanned twelve years in Louisiana and south Mississippi. Responding to a lifelong call to ministry the Seefelds moved to Shannon, Georgia, in 1983 while he attended seminary at Emory University in Atlanta, graduating Cum Laude in 1986.

Rev. Seefeld is in his 25th year as a United Methodist pastor. Having served in the Mississippi Annual Conference as founding pastor of Christ United Methodist in Long Beach, pastor of Byhalia UMC, First UMC Kosciusko, and Alta Woods UMC in Jackson, he came to First UMC Greenwood in June of 2001.

"First United Methodist Church of Greenwood is a traditional church rooted in more than one hundred and fifty years of United Methodist tradition. Attendance averages about 125 in Sunday School and 200 in morning worship. The congregation has been experiencing moderate growth in the last several years. The children’s department is the most active, but there are activities for all age groups."

"I hope that every person at First UMC can find meaningful worship, and opportunities to grow in discipleship of Jesus Christ through study and service. We are a family of love and grace reaching into the community to serve and share the good news of the love of Jesus.  We invite your participation and your inquiries as we seek to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ."
