The
Endowment Fund was created to provide
sufficient funds to maintain First United Methodist Church’s
historic sanctuary and physical plant and to provide for
future expansion. First Church's sanctuary was built in
1898 and is the oldest original sanctuary building still in
use in Greenwood.
Giving to the Endowment Fund is
an act of faith. Whether the gift is made now or
deferred to the future, careful and prayerful consideration
should be given in order to maximize its benefit to both the
donor and to the recipient.
There are many
Giving Opportunities to the Endowment
Cash Gifts go to work
immediately and are fully deductible up to 50% of adjusted
gross income.
Gifts Through Wills You
can use your will to make a bequest to the church. A
simple amendment or codicil can achieve this. The Endowment
Trustees can provide information on how to make a bequest
or draw up a will.
Real Estate Gifts
Residences and any other properties can be given to the
Endowment. You can continue to live in your residence
until your death or the death of your spouse. The
property becomes a charitable deduction at the time of the
transfer, reducing the taxes on your estate.
Gifts Through Insurance
You can donate a policy you no longer need, or designate the
Endowment to receive a percentage of the death benefit on an
existing or new policy.
Gifts of Appreciated Assets
Gifts of long-held assets (property, stocks, bonds, etc.) can
achieve a tax deduction based on current market values that
are probably far greater today than the initial cost.
Income for Life Annuities You
can give assets (cash, securities, etc.) and receive a
guaranteed fixed income for life and even for the life of your
spouse. An immediate income tax deduction, the continued
benefit from your assets, relief from investment management
worries, and elimination of estate taxes are just a few of the
benefits.
