Council on Ministries met January 13, February 10 and March 9, 2008. A recap of our meeting follows. 

EDUCATION 
Children's: 
February 10, 2008 colored valentine gift bags delivered to church member shut-ins with cookies; March 22, 2008 Easter Egg Hunt, lunch and pictures with Easter Bunny; April 26, 2008 bowling party with a pizza supper; May 18, 2008 supporting FUMC food pantry, bags will be delivered Wednesday 5/14(end of Wednesday night activities until August) and pick up May 18, 2008, return to church for a cookout and outside activities in the church park; June, 2008 singing at Golden Age presenting a small gift to residents; July 7-11, 2008 Vacation Bible School - Theme is "Beach Party-Surfin' Through The Scriptures"; August 3, 2008 back to school swim party at Gwen Pickett's and cook out (Wednesday night activities resume on August 6, 2008); September 28, 2008 children will recite the Lord's Prayer which is what they have been focusing on this year; October 12, 2008 Children's Sabbath during morning worship, October 18, 2008 Fall Festival with Sunday School classes sponsoring events for the children; November 23, 
2008 Loyalty Sunday children will sing two songs of Thanksgiving during worship service; December 14, 2008 Children's Christmas evening program. 

Youth:
March 1, 2008 dinner theatre; April 12, 2008 youth work day; April 
13, 2008 tentative plans for Youth Bank Sale; working on putting together some Safe Sanctuary things. 

Adult:
April 6, 2008 starting Parenting Bible study titled "Parenting The Early Years" meeting Sundays at the church for six sessions. There is a cost for the study workbooks. 

Sunday School:
All classes now have a teacher and they are all very committed. 

PRAYER COMMITTEE 
Continues to keep all needful on prayer list. Ask that everyone share any information with anyone on the committee. The Lenten Devotional Materials have been distributed along with the church members issue of "Journey to the Cross". 

NUTURE COMMITTEE
Has been actively mailing cards to absent members and delivering packets to new members along with extra efforts to greet them at church. 

SHUT-INS Our shut-ins continue to increase in number and the committee has re-structured the listing and sent out to all UMW Circles for their handling. 

UMW
Special mission to assist in "Crosses to Iraq". Donations were made to purchase clinging crosses and give out to the military leaving out of Mississippi for active duty outside USA. Circle 7 Garage Sale coming up April 4-5. 

MISSION COMMITTEE
Continues to assist the local community missions with donations to the Ministerial Association and to the service at the Community Kitchen. They continue discussing plans to aid UMCOR in much needed kits. They welcome any input for project in the Mission area. 

SHOEBOX MINISTRY
They are running low and ask for any donations to their ministry. They require any everyday toiletry items. 

SOFTBALL CHURCH TEAM
Reports that 13 members (5 from FUMC) committed to playing summer league. The registration is $700.00. They are practicing now and play will begin end of April. A schedule will be available later and posted to the website and at the church. 

FAMILY MINISTRIES
Tentative schedule for fourth Sunday of each month: January-covered dish; February-pizza and salad; March-covered dish; April-covered dish; May-family picnic; June-Homemade Ice Cream Social; July-watermelon cutting; August-Birthday Bash; September-Sandwiches & Desserts; October-Fall Festival chili & wiener roast; November-open; December-refreshments after Children's Christmas program possible Christmas dish and ornament exchange; December-pizza after caroling. Praise Band & special entertainment available during some events. 

HEALTH & WELLNESS
March-CPR classes; April-Children's Health Fair; May-Women's issues; June-Men's issues; July-open; August-older adult issues; September-nutrition and exercise; October-cancer awareness; November-heart issues; December-open. 

COMMUNICATIONS
Committee is actively updating website, advertising and promoting all the activities of church and committees. Currently they are working to update the Sunday School brochures and website with pictures and updated information. Please continue to utilize their expertise in print, visual aids, website updates and all other ways to get your information out to the congregation and community. 

PASTOR
FUMC currently organizing Confirmation Classes for 6th graders. Also looking into offering an adult Confirmation Class as well.

SEPTEMBER 16, 2007

Lila Karrer reported from the Missions committee that a new date for the gulf Coast Mission Trip is being considered. The original date to leave was October 25th.  The Local mission Funds is low.  Lila asked help in replenishing this mission project fund.

Sandra Perry reporting for Pat Verhage UMW President, states that all circles have begun their meetings again since the summer break.  Winna Seefeld gave a great presentation on Evangelism at the September General Meeting.

Family ministries was extremely satisfied with the results of the August Birthday Bash

Sunday night, September 23, there will be a covered dish supper at 5:00 p.m. in the Russell Annex. Rev. David Langdon, Chaplain at Parchman will speak on the Kairos, an outreach to the Prison Population at 6:00 p.m.

After the Fall Festival, the next planned Family Ministries event is December 2nd with a covered dish supper.  The theme is to bring your favorite Christmas dish.

Newby Cook, Program Director, informed the committee that there are currently three nursery workers.  Hazel Ivory, Barbara Blissette, and Stephanie Thompson.  Two workers are scheduled to work in the nursery.  Newby also said that cooks and servers for Wednesday night suppers are needed.

Blanche Hardin is leading the ten week Bible Study entitled Believing in God by Beth Moore.  Fifteen ladies have signed up for the course.

Bereavement served the family of Julia Osterman after her services and will be serving lunch to the family of Lucille McGee.

Amanda Hardin chair of the Education Committee says the next function will be October 14th Children’s Sabbath.  The Fall Festival will be held on October 20 beginning at 3:00.  Family Ministries will serve the supper at 6:00 p.m.  $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children.  Some of the planned activities are:

    *Cake Walk by the Open Door Class with cakes being made by the Russell & Sis Taylor classes.

    *Bingo by the Open Door Class

    *Outside Games by the Truth Seeker Class

    *Go Fishing by the Good News Class

    *Tattoo's by the Youth Class

November has been designated as Sunday School Attendance Month.  A Teacher’s Appreciation Breakfast is being planned for November.

Loyalty Dinner is set for Sunday November 18th, immediately after the morning worship service.  Circle 7 will also be having their Semi-annual Bake Sale on the 18th.

Evangelism is continuing to deliver bread to church visitors, followed up by phone calls,

The Nurture Committee continues to give new adult church member a FUMC filled mug and packet of information about the church.  We have two new members – Brian Street and Michelle Yarbrough.  Cards are also sent out weekly to various church members. 

 Current projects of the Communications Committee to promote and publicize are:

 Wednesday night activities:  Claudia White to decorate large bulletin board; other publicity is being planned.

Sunday school brochure/flyer:  Jo Ann, Marty, and Winna are working on this project.

Communication Committee asks that all groups, classes, and individuals in the church please go through the committee before sending any photo, announcement, etc., to the newspaper.  This is so featured events can be publicized in a timely manner, but still have past events published as well.

The Health and Wellness Committee has resumed its monthly initiatives with the focus for September on Cholesterol Awareness.  A bulletin insert on September 9 highlighted the dangers of high cholesterol levels.

Next month’s focus will be on Preventing Breast Cancer.  A special presentation is planned for October 7 prior to the Sunday evening worship service.  There will be presentations of this type for several future initiatives.  

 

February 2007 

 The church has been a hub of activity lately and will continue to be quite busy for a while.

 Happenings from the first of the year include:

bulletBeth Moore’s ten week Bible Study “Breaking Free” started January 15th with Blanche Hardin as the leader.
bulletRev. Seefeld began leading a Sunday night Bible study on the book of Matthew.
bulletJim and Cynthia Holman presented a service of song on January 28th.
bulletThe Youth sponsored “Souper Bowl of Caring” offering on February 28th for a mission project.
bulletOn February 11th, the Children Ministries sponsored a lunch meeting with parents and children. After lunch a craft time was scheduled to help the children prepare Valentine goodies that were delivered on Valentine’s Day.
bulletThe Youth sold Goodie Bags on February 11th to benefit their youth fund.
bulletLent began with Ash Wednesday services on February 21st.
bulletThe Truth Seekers Sunday School Class had a Chili Supper and began a Video Series on March 2nd.
bulletA Pot Luck Lunch was held after church on March 4th.  The day was called “Invite a Friend Sunday” where Bill Hammons challenged everyone to invite a friend to worship and lunch.  Several groups/inviduals presented us with inspirational entertainment. An offering was taken to help Matthew Moore for his trip to Zimbabwe.

 Upcoming Events 

bulletA New Young Adult Sunday School class is being formed.  There will be an organization breakfast on Sunday, March 18th, during the Sunday school hour.  The class will start March 25th.
bulletOne Great hour of Sharing Sunday will be March 18th.
bulletThe Children’s Fun Day of Bowling has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
bulletCircle 7 will host a Bake Sale on Sunday April 1st between Sunday school and Church.
bulletPassover services will be on Wednesday night April 4th at 6:00 p.m.
bulletThe Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 7th.  This is for adults as well as children.
bulletEaster services will be April 8th.
bulletA number of women will be traveling to a Women of Faith Conference at Little Rock, Arkansas on April 13th.
bulletSaturday, April 14th, the youth will be participating in the District Youth Rally.
bulletFriday, April 27th, the Youth will have their annual dinner theater with a Mexican theme.
bulletThe Relay for Life will be held at the Ag Center on Friday, April 27th.  Newby Cook will be participating in this activity, Call her for details.

 

COUNCIL ON MINISTRIES REPORT TO ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD JANUARY 9, 2007

The COM will have its first meeting of 2007 on January 14th at 5:00 p.m.

The youth attended overflow New Year’s Weekend at Camp Lake Stephens.

Matthew Moore and Eddie Amelung have been chosen to travel with 23 others from Mississippi to Zimbabwe this summer for a first hand view of what the Methodist are doing there.

The annual youth Super Bowl of Caring Offering will be on February 4th.  Youth will be at all entrances to the sanctuary to take up this special offering.

The UMW current focus is on A Call to Prayer & Self-Denial between the dates of January 8th, and February 19th.  The offering for this special period will go to the retirement fund of Deaconesses and Missionaries sponsored by the Women’s Division.

Breaking Free by Beth Moore a ten week bible study will begin January 15th under the leadership of Blanche Hardin

Elder Care will have workshop for senior adults on January 24th at 9:30 a.m.  They will provide information concerning key issues for senior adults.  Nothing will be sold.

There will be a workshop for Laity Officer Training on Sunday, January 14 from 2-4 p.m. at First UMC, Indianola and January 21st at Moore Memorial UMC, Winona. The church bus will travel to Indianola Sunday, January 14th at 1:15 to attend the meeting.

Wednesday night activities will resume January 10th.

On January 14th during worship services there will be the installation of the 2007 church officers.

                           September 10, 2006

The COM met Sunday, September 10th. The following reports were given.

Missions – In an effort to spread our theme of “Healthy Body, Mind and Spirit”,
we will provide and serve fresh fruit during lunch at the Community Kitchen
on September 28th. You can contribute to this mission project by making a
monetary donation through your Sunday School class or in the fruit baskets placed
in the church foyers through September 24th. You can also participate
by serving lunch. Call Jinny Hoyt to sign up to serve.

Prayer Ministry – Committee was very involved with the balloons and the prayers attached to them, also giving input to the prayer on the “Healthy Body, Mind & Spirit” insert on the bulletin. The committee prays daily for those on the church prayer list.

Bereavement – Our church has been very receptive to helping families at the time of their loss. Weda Pickett assisted by Chris Baker will be in charge of committee during the month of October.

Worship – Committee set up a cleaning day for the church sanctuary. There was a good response. 

Education – There has been a change in the acolytes. There will be two per Sunday.
There have been three changes in Sunday school teachers. 
Sue Bailey –will be teaching Youth
Patricia Hurst will be teaching the 3rd – 6th grade.
Deanna Lowery will substitute for Patricia Hurst or Janet Picardat
Janet Picardat 4K – 5K
The past two Sundays there has been a total of 13 in the 3rd-6th grades and 4K &5K classes. Additional teachers might have to be added.

Family Ministry – Will meet within the next few weeks to finalize the October Fall Festival Plans.

Nurture – Committee busy sending out correspondence, invitations to
inactive members and welcoming new members.

UMW – Meetings will resume beginning Monday, September 11th.

Adult Ministry – Camp Lake Stephens Fall Fling is on November 11. More information
will be given in the newsletter.

Rebecca gave information of a Writing Workshop that will be in held in Jackson in
November. Anyone interested please contact Rebecca.

Glenn asked that we support the A2 Indicator Study during our Sunday School time.
The A2 Indicators is a church self-evaluation program based on the 2nd chapter of Acts. It has a four week Bible study period before completing the evaluation. Bishop Ward
has asked that this study be the centerpiece of our October Charge Conference. The
October COM meeting will be a joint section with the Administrative Board to
discuss and answer questions on the A2 Indicator Study. The joint meeting will be held on Sunday, October 8th at 4:00 p.m.

Committee on Lay Leadership (Nominations) will begin meeting on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the church parlor starting September 13th.

On Sunday September 17th – Willis Brumfield will speak on the 160th Birthday of the Church. And on September 24th, Bishop Hope Morgan Ward will address both the 160th
Birthday and the theme of Healthy Body, Mind and Spirit. Lunch will be served in the Russell Annex after the service.

COUNCIL ON MINISTRIES
July 11, 2006

 The Nurture Committee is working toward establishing a list of church members who would like someone to call and check on them daily.  The committee is still working with the computer program results to get a list of members who have missed several Sundays.

 Sandra Perry updated the shut-in ministry list.  Sandra & Kathryn make sure all

Shut ins are visited.

 Joan is in need of suggestions for places or events the Adult Ministries to visit or participate in this fall.  Please let Joan knows of any ideas.

 Janie Dale reported that the Prayer Ministry will be involved with Open House again this year. 

Bible School is going on this week with the ending program Friday night at 6:00 p.m.  After the program, refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.  Monday’s count of children attending this year is 80 plus.

 There will be no Wednesday night supper, activities, or worship services until August 16th.  Also no Sunday night worship services until August.

 The church is putting together a team to walk in the 300 Oaks Race on September 16th.

Call the church office to sign up.

 The Society of St. Andrew has a gleaning project in Indianola for anyone who wishes to help with the project.

 Sandra Perry and Glenn are co-coordinating our 160th celebration. There will be historical highlights each week plus the following speakers:

 August 27 – Rev. Ed Norris, Chaplain at Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Memphis will speak relating to a chaplain’s perspective of health.

 September 10 – Rev. Jesse Moore retired head of chaplain’s services at Methodist Hospital, Memphis will preach on “Health from the Wesleyan Perspective.” There will be a Health Workshop in the Russell Annex from 2-5 p.m on each of topics of our theme, Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, and Healthy Spirit.  Professionals in each of these areas are developing teams to present hands on instruction with regard to their area of health.

 September 17, Willis Brumfield will be our guest preacher.

 September 24th our own Bishop Hope Morgan Ward will preach.  Following this service there will be a congregational dinner in the Russell Annex.

 

 

Igniting Ministry Committee is working on a Sunday school brochure that would give information about all classes in the church, including location, age range, and type of study. Jo Ann Hodge will be making all the adult Sunday school class pictures on Sunday, May 14, and the children’s class pictures on Sunday, May 21, for this brochure.

Bishop Hope Morgan Ward has agreed to preach in September or October for Open House Month. The theme of our Open House this year is healthy body, mind and spirit.

The Membership/Attendance computer program has been installed. Igniting Ministry
Committee has requested replacements for the pew pads listing attendance plus adding
an additional pad for each pew. The committee believes the additional pad will make a big difference in getting members and visitors to register their attendance.

The Prayer Committee has a small booklet about prayer for sale. These booklets are located in the hallway with other church items for sale. Price is $l.00.

The Children’s Department has a trip planned for Saturday, June 3, to The Triple N Ranch. They will be leaving the church at 1:00 p.m. for an outing that includes horseback riding, a hayride, swimming, and cookout.

June 4 will be “Play Day” at the church playground for everyone. Activities will begin
at 4:30 p.m.

A Two & Three Year-old Activity Time has been added to the Wednesday night schedule. Jeri Moore will be teaching this class from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. 

Vacation Bible School has been set for July 10–15 from 8–11 a.m., with the theme “Adventures of the Treasure Seekers.”

Circle 7 has scheduled their annual garage sale for August 4 and 5.

 

The Council on Ministries met Sunday, April 10, 2005, 5:00 p.m. in the Sis Taylor Classroom. The meeting was opened with prayer.

Rev. Seefeld gave his updates on the Spiritual Renewal Event. It is being called Spiritual Renewal to deepen and enhances our own spirituality while reaching out to others. Rev. Scott Larsen, Mineral Wells UMC, at Olive Branch, MS will the spiritual leader. The event will be September 18-21 with regular Sunday services and Monday through Wednesday will be 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. services. Breakfast will follow the morning services with the following in charge:

Monday – UMW
Tuesday- UMM
Wednesday – Adult Ministries/Bereavement

Sunday night – Bar-B-Q supper before services with the Youth and College/Career Class working with Truth Seekers Sunday School Class in planning and preparing meal. Children’s coordinator will be in charge of children’s activities.

Monday night – Scott will meet and eat with youth at 5:30. Youth will have one song as special music on Monday night also.

Tuesday – not set up yet for special music/activity

Wednesday – Homemade Ice cream and cookies after church with Family Ministries coordinating.

Circle 7 will pick up anyone wishing a ride to and from church.

Lilly Land will be in charge of projecting hymns on screen in sanctuary. 

Other Groups and ongoing plans:
Igniting Ministry – Greeters, Door hangers, invitations
Communications – promotion, advertising, sound & video equipment
Prayer – cottage meetings
Worship – plan services, equipment, setup and ushers
Children’s ministries – children’s events, nursery
Music – choir each night, solos, (Whit/Dudley) (Jim & Cynthia Holman) 

On May 22, a quartet and trio from Alta Woods UMC in Jackson will provide our evening worship experience at 6:00 p.m. The singers will be led by Mr. Joe Schrock, former director of music at Alta Woods. They will sing music in a variety of styles.

Winna gave the Igniting Ministry updates next on September Open House. The committee is working on the door hanger project. This year the hangers will list events in the church. Invitations will also be sent to individuals and families as was last year. The nurture committee and shut in ministry will assist in this project.

Igniting ministry is going to video services during the spiritual renewal event and is working on streaming  them on the website.

The 1st time visitor program is going well. Sunday schools classes are given names of visitors each Sunday and asked to welcome them and make sure they receive special invitations to church events.

An exhibit of collectibles and heirlooms is planned for one Sunday afternoon in September.

Igniting ministry asks that a Sunday school contest be held during the month of September.

Mission Committee – the church food pantry is in serious need of food. An article was placed in the newsletter and also Sunday school classes being asked to replenish food.

UMW – May 2nd annual picnic to be held in Russell Annex with Circle 7 in charge. The third Saturday in August, the UMW will be in charge of the Golden Age Birthday party.

Adult Ministries – Joan Wagner planning a trip possibly on May 24th to the Dixon Gardens in Memphis. Everyone enjoyed the trip to Mobile to see the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Nurture Committee – They are saying in touch with new members. Also, Betty has asked Charles Bowman to write and welcome new members when they join.

Bereavement Committee – This committee had helped Helen Smith in the loss of her brother this pass week.

Newby – Vacation Bible School July 11-15 and Pictorial directory October 4 – 6.

Shut Ins – Sandra reports good results from requesting items for this ministry. Sandra shared how Margie Burt (Bobby Miller’s mother) and Louise Warren (Amy and Ida’s mother) responded to the throws they were given.

Prayer committee working on cottage prayer meetings for the spiritual renewal events. Two nights are being planned. Plans will be finalized by July lst as Glenn requested.

Worship – Our three seniors will be honored on April 24th. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day will be the next upcoming special holidays.

 

February 13, 2005

Council on Ministries met Sunday, February 13th, 5:00 p.m in the Sis Taylor Classroom with 15 members present. Financial report listing current expenditures were distributed to each committee. The committee voted unanimously to send a recommendation to the proper committee supporting a revival this year.

Below is an overview of activities presently set up or upcoming events being planned.
Adult Ministries – Weda Pickett is now chair of Belles and Beaus along with Pat Verhage serving as co-chair. Travel plans are underway for a trip to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit in Mobile, Alabama with stops at other special places or events.
Children’s Ministries – A very successful Valentine party was enjoyed by everyone this afternoon. One of the activities was making frames for pictures as a gift for parents. The Easter egg hunt will be the next activity. On May 6th there will be a lock-in at the church allowing each member to bring one guest. In June there will be a trip to Jackson. 
Bereavement Committee – Blanche Hardin asks everyone to report to the church office and/or the committee immediately upon learning of a church related death where they can respond to the family’s needs.
Igniting Ministries – A Greeter Training Class was just given to prepare church members the duties of a Sunday greeter. Class representatives of the training gave lessons in their class today where everyone would be knowledgeable about their role as a greeter. Winna stated that the committee is designing a follow-up program for worship service guests. September Open House activates may include a major Bible oriented service or special music. Also being considered for the month of activities is a church wide exhibit of personal collections and heirlooms.
Education Committee – Vacation Bible School “Circle G Ranch” has a western theme and will start with a kick-off meal on Sunday July 10th. July 11 – 15 dates have been set with morning classes. A special Friday event is being planned for the closing. Items needed for bible school include small potato chip cans, small nut cans, or icing cans with plastic lids. Bible School is for children 3 years old through the sixth grade. Promotion Sunday is set for August 14th and October 9th for Children’s Sabbath.
Communication Team – This committee will assist in the advertising/promotion of all activities through print, sound, visual, and electronic media upon request.
Youth Group – The youth sold “Crazy-for-You Chocolate Cupid Spoons” along with Heavenly Heart Shaped Cookies today raising $429.00 for their current mission project. The yearly Dinner Theater date is set for Friday, April 22nd. “Hooray for Hollywood” will be the theme with food and entertainment fit for the academy awards.
College/Career Group – Ken Goss as chairman states there will be a March 5th wild game supper. A softball kick-off will be planned to inspire members to support our softball team as players and cheerleaders.
Family Ministries – A covered dish supper was held on Sunday January 30th with food and fellowship enjoyed by all. The next planned activity will be in conjunction with Children’s Ministries in planning and preparing the Easter Egg Hunt on March 26th.
Mission Committee – During January the committee donated $100.00 to UMCOR for a hurricane relief mission trip to Alabama. Each Adult Sunday School Class was asked by the Mission Committee to donate $1 per member monthly for support of the GIM- Community Kitchen for this year.
Prayer Team – A prayer calendar for February has been distributed that follows the Lent devotional guide written by James W. Moore. Copies of booklet and calendar are available at sanctuary entrances.
Nurture Committee - Betty Fraiser asks for everyone to notify the Nurture Committee of people who have missed church where they can reach out to them. Everyone needs to be aware of those not present at church.
Shut-In Ministry - This ministry is in needs of books, magazine, Guidepost, Upper Rooms, bud vases, toilet articles and colored bead necklaces. Also needed are men’s and ladies’ sweaters, plus dresses for residents of Golden Age Nursing Home. The Sewing Group is presently making bibs for nursing home residents. Contact Sandra Perry or Kathryn Ambrose if you know of anyone that needs to be added to the Shut-In ministry.
Worship Committee – Lenten Luncheons are being held this year in the Russell Annex every Wednesday until Easter. The next special worship service will be on Maundy Thursday followed by Easter morning services.
Program Director – Newby Cook gave report of her and Rev. Seefeld’s meeting with Olan Mills
to discuss a new church pictorial directory. Newby will set up October dates for pictures and also committees needed to carry out this project.

Reports: 
Bereavement - Does not have a set committee. Will work with Sunday School classes to provide needs as they arise. 
Nurture - Betty Frasier has been working hard on getting this committee off the ground. A packet has been organized to give to new members. A system is being worked out that will help new members find a place within our congregation. We also want to be mindful of members who have missed Sunday mornings. 
Prayer Team - Lenten calendars have been ordered. Team is looking for devotion books to circulate around the congregation. Prayer Grams, Comfort Grams & Joy Grams still being issued. 
Worship - Four new Acolytes have been trained. Need for a bulletin stand at the choir room entrance to sanctuary. Thank you to Matthew Chamblis and Matthew Moore for picking up in sanctuary. 
Missions - Food Pantry & Snack packs overseen. FUMC serves 4th Thursday of every month at the Greenwood Interfaith Ministries Community Kitchen. Help will be given to UMCOR for Iran earthquake. 
UMW - There are 5 active circles. The circles visit our shut-ins and inactives. Circle 7 will have a bake sale April 4th, Palm Sunday. 
Shut-In Ministry - Oversees the distribution of shut-ins to groups within the church for visitation. Visitors are asked to remember birthdays and holidays and do whatever else they can during the year. Any suggestions are welcomed. Visitors report to Glenn if there are any specific needs. 
Education - Nena Griffis & Wyvonne Burden are Co-Sunday School Superintendents. Children groups will need to be reorganized next August. There is a need for workers to help with children's activities on Wednesday night. VBS planning has already started. Janice Cook & Deanna Lowery will be coordinating again. Date has been set for July 12th - 16th. Easter Egg hunt will be April 10th. Zoo trip will be May 15th. Children's Sabbath is Oct 17th. Youth are making plans for several events - Fundraiser, Mission trip on spring break & Lake Junaluska trip in summer. Rhonda Brooks is teaching a Wednesday night bible study. Young Adults have elected officers - Andy Hammons, Sunday School President; Stephanie Myers, Nurture; Hugh Land, Treasurer. Want to serve in Community Kitchen. Plan a day trip to Jackson to ice skate. Summer canoeing trip and over night retreat. Adult Ministries plan to have 5 -6 trips this year. Plan to put together a brochure about the trips. 
Family Ministries - planning stages, will help with the Easter Egg Hunt. 
Communications - Notify Winna with important dates to help with publicity. They are working on a Lent Campaign listing all events for the season. New member Lily Land & Alan Hammons. 
Igniting Ministry - Evangelism has combined with Igniting Ministries and will go by the name of Igniting Ministries. Remind members to be aware of visitors and greet them after worship. Remind ushers to pass the offering plate to everyone. 
Lay Leader - Super Sunday on Feb. 1st. 
Library - Wyvonne Burden & Janie Dale will be working on the Library on a regular basis. Shoe Box Ministry - Susan has plenty of supplies and thanks everyone for remembering this ministry.

- Missions Committee - Will reduce budget to $2,500 
- Worship Committee - Will ask for budget of $800 
- Communications - Will ask for budget of $500 - discussion on the Newsletter being part of communications budget, is not currently because of difficulty to separate the postage, paper, etc expense from other office mailings. 
- Adult Ministries - Written report  - Will ask for $500 
- Bereavement Committee - Will ask for $200 
- Education Committee - Written report 
- Prayer Committee - Written report; will ask for $150 
- Family Ministries Committee - Must check with Susan Robertson for budget- no report 
- Sunday School/Social Time/Shoebox Ministries/Music Ministry/Food and Kitchen/Evangelism Committee - All no report 
- Voted to put Radio Broadcast under the Communications Budget and jurisdiction. 
- Voted to hold no December Meeting.

Missions Report - Lila & Dick Karrer
Missions Committee met on May 13th having 6 persons present.  Items discussed: FUMC Food Pantry; The Concert in the Park sponsored by St John’s - voted to send $100 to Children's Home instead of placing in plate; voted to donate $100 to the Conference Offering for the Annual Conference givings.
Prayer Committee -  Janie Dale
We have gone through the roll of church members and non-resident members in the church newsletter. Will now show opportunities for prayer such as before and after calls, when passing a wreck, when hearing ambulance, walkers praying for the neighbors, etc. 
Adult Ministries - Betty Fraiser (was ill; submitted written report)
Nena requested ideas for our last Sunday of the month fellowship with St. John’s and Wesley UMC.

Prayer Ministry - Janie Dale
Have almost gone through roll for prayers for entire membership in newsletter; suggestions for a prayer-related message requested.  Lenten Calendars, book for distribution, and Prayergrams discussed.
Adult Ministries - Betty Fraiser
 Met first of April for planning session.  Ideas discussed include a monthly luncheon meeting, a trip to Jackson April 26 to see radio control fly-in, and trip to Memphis May 20 to visit new panda exhibit at zoo.
Young Adult Ministries - Ashley Seefeld
Met 2-3 times month during Wednesday night supper; created "We Miss You" cards; collected pictures for scrapbooks for graduating seniors; plan a graduation party; will have first after-church lunch Sunday, May 18 and Bar-B-Que at other time to put together scrapbooks; need info on youth from Nena.
Communications Team - Winna Seefeld
No longer has monthly meetings; met in April to work out how to function; assigned responsibilities; set 2003 goals; reviewed calendar and events.  New committee includes:  Nena Griffis, Jo Ann Hodge, Amy Hooper, Stephanie McBryde, Glenn Nail, Janet Picardat, Rev. Glenn Seefeld, Winna Seefeld.  Team decided that we will no longer plan publicity without direct involvement of those responsible for event.
